My Photography

After a long hiatus from my photography, I have dusted off all my equipment and hit the pavement. I set the main part of my website to point to my portfolio. I will try and post a picture a day to keep it current, but if I don’t have anything worth posting it might be a few days between post until new material is shot.

For my snapshot type pictures I will just use Flickr.

I really missed getting out and taking in my surroundings and trying to capture them to a moment frozen in time. I got several projects in mind to keep me busy snapping pictures for a while. One of them directly relates to my ghost towns project. So there will be updates happening in two places at the same time.

Projects

I have got several web projects I am working on at the moment.  My flagship project right now is Oklahoma Ghost Towns.  This site is dedicated to research towns of Oklahoma’s past.  Some of these towns still exist and still have people living in them, but are in such decline that they are considered semi-abandoned ghost towns.  I figure the site will be an on going project for many years to come.  It will take the help of a lot of people providing information and stories about the towns.  There have already been a few who have shared information and even pictures.  The site is meant to complement my friend’s site BlogOklahoma.us.  Some of our research will over lap and link to each other.

I am also tossing around ideas for my wife’s business web site.  She runs a dog grooming business.  How do I make a web site for a dog groomer that isn’t going to be using the power of the web to enhance their business?  There is so much I could throw onto the site that might help, but they want to keep the business simple and just take appointments by phone.  OK, I can understand that.  The web can be an overwhelming thing at times.  Guess I will just end up making the site some kind of flyer/advertising page for the business.

There are couple of other sites I am working on for a few of my hobbies as well.  OklahomaHams.net is a ham radio site I am toying around with.  Custer County SKYWARN is actually meant to serve the hams and EM personnel for Custer County.  It is all about weather information.

Funny thing is that even with all of these projects continuously being tweaked and updated, I am always willing to start another one.  What can I say?  I really like the web and creating useful content for it.

Site Updates

I redid some of the original graphics to give the site a new look.  I’m thinking that I’m not done.  The flames are in orange right now and I think they would look better in blue.  Same with the bottom.  I’m not real crazy about the solid color transition.  I think an image at the bottom would help spice things up a bit down there too.

Like I said.  This is the hard part for me.  Getting the look I like and can live with for a while.  Of course, this site is sort of my play ground for testing code and concepts.

Changing Everything

It had been awhile since I had really done anything exciting or creative on my personal website.  Upgrading the database was more trouble than just starting over with a new one.  The old blog I had up had so few post and most of the links went to photo galleries that don’t even exist anymore, so deleting all of it and starting over was not that big of a deal.  Plus, this gave me a chance to update to new blog code running on a newer version of the database software.  Overall, all good things.

Now comes the hard part.  Designing a site that I really like for myself.  There are several things I want to integrate into the site and a couple of different design concepts I want to try.  Should be interesting to see what I come up with.
